They assess patient conditions and create and implement patient care plans. Responsibilities include treating wounds and providing advanced life support. Nurses assist physicians in performing medical procedures. They observe and record patient vital signs. Ensuring the proper functioning of ventilators, monitors, and other medical equipment is essential. Nurses administer intravenous fluids and medications. They perform suctioning when necessary. Collaboration with fellow critical care team members is vital. Nurses respond to life-saving situations using established nursing standards and protocols. Acting as patient advocates is a crucial aspect of their role. Providing education and support to patient families is also an important responsibility. Critical care nurses may care for pre- and post-operative patients. Some nurses serve as case managers or engage in policy-making.
