Job Description:

Disney General Entertainment Content, 20th Television is looking for an executive to join its Business Affairs Department as a Vice President to support scripted programming across internal (e.g., ABC, Freeform, Onyx, Hulu, Disney+, etc.) and external (e.g., Apple, Peacock, HBO Max, etc.) platforms. This executive will negotiate and draft agreements in connection with the development and production of television projects, including agreements with above-the-line talent (e.g., producers, directors, on-air talent, etc.), overall term agreements and rights agreements, and oversee business matters in connection with the development and production of pilots, series and specials. They will also be involved in negotiations between the studio and internal and third-party networks, platforms, studios and production companies in connection with the development, production and licensing of projects. In addition, the Vice President will work closely with executives in all internal departments, including Development, Current Series, Casting, Production, Legal Affairs, Marketing, Publicity, IP, Labor and Finance. Responsibilities:

  • Structuring, negotiating, drafting, and managing the studio's agreements to engage above-the-line talent (producers, directors, writers and on camera talent), acquire underlying rights, and produce content for broadcast, basic and pay cable, and streaming/on-demand platforms.
  • Advising and working in a highly collaborative fashion with other Business Affairs teammates, and with colleagues across departments including Legal Affairs, Creative, Production, Casting, Finance, Marketing, Publicity, IP and Labor, on a wide variety of business and legal matters.
  • Interfacing with network/platform Business Affairs counterparts and with the distribution arms of the Walt Disney Company in connection with the exploitation of studio content.
  • Managing relationships with agents, lawyers, studio, and network/platform executives throughout entertainment industry.
  • Thinking critically about how to improve business strategies, deal structures and parameters, deal memo templates, and departmental process and procedures, and engaging in creative problem solving on deals and projects.
  • Advising/supporting senior executives/management personnel on key business issues. Basic Qualifications:
    • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills, with a demonstrated track record of sound business and legal judgment
    • Results oriented, proactive and highly responsive
    • Excellent written, presentation and verbal skills
    • Extensive hands-on experience with complex contracts
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a high volume of work
    • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and remain composed under pressure
    • Collaborative and team-oriented approach
    • Demonstrated knowledge of the scripted series production process
    • Strong existing relationships with entertainment attorneys, agents, and studio and network/platform business affairs executives is helpful
    • Comfortable communicating with all levels of management Required Education: Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited institution.
