The Engineer 3 will work within the Engineering group responsible for the governance and oversite of all aspects related to our Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Standards. The Engineer will work with a wide range of multi-functional groups across SCE and field personnel teams - leading creation efforts of new, complex and highly technical standards for new T&D technologies, as well as supporting updates, modifications or changes to existing standards. You will work very closely with various partners to develop technical expertise in the design, construction, operation, inspection and maintenance activities within T&D.

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager of the Transmission/Distribution Standards/Tech Transfer unit under the Asset Management Strategy and Engineering (AMS&E) Organization of T&D.

  • Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams in the development of new standards
  • Identify and engage SCE partners to support standard development and collect input on changes
  • Coordinate team meetings with stakeholders to identify, access and resolve standard update impacts
  • Work with key SMEs seeking solutions to issues rising from standard updates
  • Participate in asset and technology development meetings with other engineering groups
  • Present and communicate standard update proposals, impacts, analysis and secure approvals from key stakeholders
  • Ensure consistent and adequate details are provided within proposed standards to meet the needs of end users
  • Resolve planning and field inquiries and requests for clarifications on T&D standards information
  • Resolve quality control inquiries as it pertains to T&D standards
  • Support in the development and mentoring of other engineers within the team


    The essentials

    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering or STEM field
    • Five (5) or more years of Engineering experience

      The preferred

      • Professional Engineering (PE) License
      • Experience with transmission and/or distribution standards development
      • Experience in planning and/or field construction
      • Experience advising or leading cross-functional teams to address and solve business and engineering issues
      • Expert Engineering knowledge, specifically in: Power Systems, Protection, Utility Systems, etc.
      • Experience collaborating with all levels of employees including Senior Management and Executives within and/or across company boundaries
      • Experience gathering, understanding, integrating, and synthesizing complex information in order to develop T&D standards, propose standard changes, make recommendations, and propose action plans
      • Experience working with key partners and managing relationships with clients, to provide direction and make strategic decisions regarding changing project/product scope, policy development, implementation, and quality control
      • Experience developing and communicating ideas and information effectively to diverse audiences through oral presentations and written communications, specifically developing and delivering technical presentation
